The Mighty Oak

1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore, the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Walking in nature is one of the many ways I find joy and peace. The air is fresh. The squirrels are running about searching for their acorns. The ants marching all around the earth to bring back their bounty to their nest. The bees buzzing happily as they carry the weight of pollen on their tiny legs. The forest is ablaze with all the workers in the circle of life.

Breathe.

Oh how great it would be to have my faith painted as a mighty oak tree. The artist would start this work of art with a tiny acorn. The day my faith was planted in Jesus, my heart was like an acorn. The hard outer layers of my personal trials and tribulations kept my tiny little heart in the fortress of this shell. My heart started growing roots when I found out how to pray and cry out to Jesus. He never failed me. He stayed by my side through the many nights of pleading why the world was so horrible. Every tear the Lord brushed away, another root threatened my shell.

I was invited to church by one of my beloved friends and that was the day my heart burst forth from the many layers keeping me hid in darkness. The Bible Studies and sermons kept my roots watered.

Many people have sayings about the Oak tree.

“Strong as an oak”

“From little acorns, mighty oaks do grow”

I invite you to take a moment to see which tree you think about when reading Psalms 1:1-6.

The third verse speaks of a tree planted by water, which is where a tree finds its strength.

How do you find strength in Jesus? The Bible? A study group? Attending church?

The tree yields it’s fruit in season. Always. Without fail.

What kind of fruit are you yielding in life? Are your actions in alignment with the Bible? If not, how can you make some positive steps to enjoy the fruits of knowing Jesus Christ?

The leaves of this mighty tree do not wither. Let’s take a moment to think back to the Oak tree. Its life span can reach beyond 1,000 years. Can you imagine how many storms, tornadoes, pounds and pounds of snow and ice one tree can experience over that many years? It’s amazing to think about those trials.  Yet, the tree stands tall and strong, ever reaching to the heavens.

Take a moment to reflect on some of the toughest moments you have experienced. I know it’s hard.

How did you keep your leaves from withering?

There is something I must tell you. You have survived every single thing put in your way to this day. Your survival rate is 100%. I gotta say….. you sound like a mighty oak tree to me!
